Insurgents might be excited over Burhan (of Tral) emerging the new poster boy of the militancy 2.0, this Burhan will always be their question mark. This three-year old was in his father Bashir Bhat’s lap when bicycle-borne suspected militants, showered them with bullets in Sagipora. Bhat, a surrendered Jamiat-ul-Mujahideen militant, died almost instantly and his minor son the day after in SKIMS. Family said with Bhat dead, the toddler was driven to Chogal and then referred to Sopore and finally to SKIMS. His uncle who kept him busy with sweet talk and toys while shuttling between various hospitals said his last wish was water. Then he underwent surgery and slept forever. The minor’s murder enraged Kashmir that shut in protest on Sunday (Sep 20). Netizens drew parallels between Burhan and Syrian Aylan Kurdi. Now, police say they have got the clues about the killers, believed to be trio.

The deal between Kashmir’s pioneer hotelier family Nedous’ and ITC-run hotel chain in the mainland dates back to eighties. Almost 30 years after there was defreeze. With active persuasion of the government, they finally have implemented the deal on the land that actually belongs to the government. Nedous’ have rented out the leased prime property on fashionable M A Road to ITC that will construct 114-room hotel alongside the heritage property. ITC signed another managerial deal with Ahad Group of Hotels under which the two will have marketing tie-ups. The foundation-laying ceremony that Chief Minister Mufti Sayeed presided witnessed his predecessor Omar Abdullah in audience.

Last week, after killing more than a dozen Kashmiris straddling the divider, there was Brigadier-level contact at Chakan da Bagh. For more than 60-minutes, they talked November 2003 ceasefire, the Vajpayee initiative that they routinely violate. Brigadiers H S Sareen (120 Infantry) and Osman led the rival delegations. They discussed issues regarding ceasefire violations, targeting of civilian population and sniping incidents and “mutually agreed to make efforts to sort-out border issues “amicably”.

The ninth century Mahishasuramardini idol, showing a goddess slaying the Buffalo Demon, stolen from a Pulwama temple in 1990s was smuggled to Germany. After lot of persuasion, Berlin will be returning it to India later this month. Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has been chasing the artifact since 2012 after it was tipped off about its presence in Linden Museum, Stuttgart. The only document that led to its recovery was a copy of FIR that police had registered as the state archeology department-owned artifact went missing. Investigations blame notorious Indian art dealer Subhash Kapoor for the smuggling.

Tanvi Raina, daughter of AI’s most senior Kashmiri pilot Captain Kapil Raina is also a pilot. She has recently been given the commercial pilot license and has indicated to fly home, if she gets a chance. Born and brought up in Delhi, Tanvi was schooled from Delhi’s Jesus and Mary Convent, and trained in flying from Haryana Institute of Civil Aviation, Karnal. Lured to the skies more by the butterflies than her dad, Tanvi is a Kathak dancer too. But life is a circle. Her grandpa Jawahar Lal Raina, migrated from Pakistan during partition, settled in Karan Nagar and drove people after setting up Bharat Transport Company. His son Kapil took off flying passengers. Now it is Tanvi’s turn.
