Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Wednesday attended a congregation at Imam Bara, here at Zadibal in memory of Maulana Iftikhar Hussain Ansari on his first death anniversary.
He was received by Minister for IT, YS&S and Technical Education, Imran Raza Ansari, who is also the son of the late leader, and the other members of his family, an official statement said this evening.
Addressing the congregation, Mufti Sayeed said he cherished his friendship with late Maulana Ansari. “Ansari Sahib was indeed a true companion who stood with me shoulder-to-shoulder in difficult times,” he said, while praising his political acumen that distinguished him from other leaders.
Describing Maulana Ansari as a great religious scholar and statesman, the Chief Minister urged the people to fulfil his dream to stay united against forces which divide people in the name of religion. He also highlighted the contribution of the late leader in the expansion of People’s Democratic Party in its formative years and its emergence as a regional force to reckon with.
Mufti Sayeed also assured that his government will fulfil the wish of late Ansari Sahib to carry out the expansion of Imam Bara Zadibal.
Also present were Chairman, J&K Legislative Council, Haji Inayat, Minister for Public Works, Floriculture, Gardens & Parks, Syed Altaf Bukhari, Minister for Rural Development, Abdul Haq Khan, Minister of State for Power, H&UDD and I&C, Mohammad Ashraf Mir, Legislators, Abid Ansari and Abbas Wani and Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Peerzada Mushtaq Ahmad.
