Government has suspended the passport of Hurriyat (g) chairperson Syed Ali Geelani for four-weeks after Hurriyat patriarch had got “green signal from US embassy” in New Delhi for his travel to New York to attend OIC foreign ministers meet starting from September 27.

Talking to KNS, Hurriyat (g) spokesperson Ayaz Akbar said that Geelani received an e-mail from Srinagar Passport Office on Tuesday in which it was mentioned that his passport has been suspended for four weeks. “Geelani has applied for visa to travel to New York to attend Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) foreign ministers meet there and the US embassy has given a green signal. So to avoid Geelani to attend the meeting in New York, his passport has been suspended for four weeks,” Akbar said, while condemning the act of the government.

He said, “India’s claims of being a great democracy have proved fraud” as the voices of political opponents have been choked.”

“Both Indian and state governments are afraid that Geelani will expose them before the world community, and will aware OIC leadership about grave HR violations in J&K. That is why they are not allowing him to travel to New York,” he said.
