ARRESTED:
Bilal Ahmad Ganie son of Ghulam Mohidin of Gulab Bagh, Zakura working with SOG in Tral barged into the house of Mohammad Shafi Wani son of Ghulam Mohammad Wani at Umerabad, Umerhear Buchpora. Posing as militants, Ganie tried to overpower the family and demanded Rs 2 lakhs. However, the family members caught hold of Ganie. Though, he tried to escape and fired few shots in air but the locals rushed to the spot and thrashed the extortionist and he was injured. Police have registered a case (under FIR No. 48/2014 under Section 457, 393 RPC) against the extortionist. Another case (FIR 49 /2014 under Section 336, 353) has been registered against the persons involved in the beating of the SOG man.
AWARDED:
Tariq Mattoo, HM man has been awarded life-imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5000 has been imposed after he was found guilty of killing Sarpanch Sher Mohammad at village Changa on July 4, 2002. Judge observed, “Faculty investigation cannot alone be ground to acquit the accused in the presence of strong evidence implicating the accused”.
ADMITTED:
State government admitted before the High Court that about 90 villages, situated near Sandran stream, a confluence of river Jehlum in Anantnag, discharge sewage waste in the river. The report was submitted by Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control Department Srinagar, Mir Javed Jaffer, before the Division Bench. Earlier, IFC had submitted a report on which the court had expressed its dissatisfaction and had observed that report regarding left out part for one or other reason is not covered in the report.
ATTEMPTED:
A 30-year-old woman attempted suicide by consuming poison at her home in Khrew, Pampore. Police have registered a case under relevant sections. She was shifted to SMHS Hospital for treatment and doctors say she is stable.
RECOVERED:
Indian Army and state police busted an old cave militant hideout and recovered arms and ammunition from Kralsanger, Kupwara forests during searches. They recovered one AK-47, one AK-56, two AK magazines, 22 round AK ammunition, three Chinese hand grenade and three RPG rounds.
LIKELY:
Not only the Assembly elections, the Election Commission of India had to conduct another major exercise thereafter to fill up four vacancies of Rajya Sabha and 8 in the Legislative Council within a couple of months after the completion of Assembly polls in the State. Seven more vacancies in the Council had to be filled by the Governor on the recommendations of the State Government. The elections to Rajya Sabha as well as Legislative Council were likely to be held simultaneously in February-March as all vacancies would be arising in the same months next year.
DENIED:
A Principal Sessions Judge rejected the bail applications of two brothers Zahid Hussain and Manzoor Ahmed son of Abdul Latief, resident of Gandoh, who were facing trial in murder and kidnapping case. “They are neither under the age of 16 years nor sick or infirm persons. The trial is still in progress. The evidence produced by the prosecution cannot be appreciated at this stage because it may prejudice any of the parties to the case but through the evidence on record it cannot be said that there are no reasonable grounds for believing that the accused have not committed the offence of which the accused are charged,” the court maintained.
COMMITTED:
Sanjay Singh son of Kapoor Singh of Rehambal consumed some poisons substance and hanged himself with ceiling fan hook at his residence in Rehambal. Family members took him to District Hospital Udhampur where doctors referred him to GMC Jammu. However, he died on way to Jammu. Cause behind the extreme step could not be ascertained yet.

Tanveer Hussain of JK Bank emerged victorious in the first Open National Mountain Running Challenge held at Pahalgham. He bagged Gold medal while Imtiyaz Ahamad of J&K Police got silver and Hakeem Aqib won bronze medal in the men’s section. In women’s section, Farhana Bhat from J&K bagged gold, Shazia Ali from J&K won silver medal while Alfiya Mulani from Maharashtra pocketed the bronze medal. The event was organized by Indian Mountain Running Association.
COLLECTED:
In connection with the September 7, 2013 Shopian civilian killings allegedly by the CRPF men, police have collected all the data and expert opinion from CFSL with regard to the seized mobiles from Chandigarh. The Commission headed by Justice ML Koul (retd) told Srinagar-based news agency that police informed the Commission that it has sought all the details from Chandigarh Forensic Science Laboratory and accordingly the Commission has directed the police to submit the same before the Commission on the next date of hearing that has been listed on June 9 this month.
