State Cabinet which met here on Thursday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah decided to pay the hiked energy charges to NHPC from the fund meant for the development of other sectors in J&K, official sources said.
State government had decided to collect the water charges from its users only to invest the same in other developmental projects. It was decided four years back that the state government will pay on its own to NHPC if it ever hikes the energy charges.
Sources said that NHPC recently hiked the energy charges and the matter was discussed threadbare during Thursday’s cabinet meeting. “Finally the cabinet decided to pay to NHPC from the same funds which were saved four years back for investing in the other fields,” they added.
