SRINAGAR
The south town of Islamabad observed complete shutdown on the twentieth death anniversary of former South Kashmir Mirwaiz, Dr Qazi Nisar Ahmad on Thursday.
Late Qazi was assassinated by unknown gunmen in the south Kashmir on June 19, 1994. He had formed his own party ‘Ummat-e-Islami’.
All the shops and business establishments remained closed in the town and a procession was taken out which culminated on the Fatiha Khawani of the deceased soul.
Late Qazi became familiar in mid eighties after he slaughtered a cow in the Lal Chowk Islamabad in protest against a demand of ban on cow slaughter by some Hindu extremist forces.
Qazi later joined Muslim United Front (MUF), an amalgam of socio political organizations, which took part in the ‘rigged’ 1987 elections during which he was known for his fiery speeches.
