Congress activists house attacked in Sopore, 1 killed, another injured

A man was killed and another received serious bullet injuries after unknown gunmen fired upon them at Seelo Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district Friday evening.


Official sources said that some unknown gunmen barged inside a residential house of a congress activist Khazir Mohammad Naikoo at around 9:05 p.m and opened heavy fire upon their family members.


In the firing incident, two persons identified as Nazir Ahmad Naikoo son of Khazir Mohammad and his cousin Shabir Ahmad, a student suffered critical injuries, sources said, adding that the duo was immediately shifted to Sub-district hospital Sopore where Nazir Ahmad Naikoo, a Contactor by profession succumbed to injuries.


However, the other injured Shabir Ahmad was referred to SKIMS Soura in critical conditions, they said.


Soon after the incident, army’s 22 RR and SOG rushed to the spot, they said, adding that the joint team of forces cordoned off the whole area and launched the searches to nab the assailants.


Pertinently, a 60-year old Hizbul Mujahideen militant Mohammad Shafi Sheikh of Zaloora, Sopore was killed near the residence of Khazir Mohammad Naikoo on February 16 last year, sources added. (GNS)
