Authorities placed Hurriyat (M) chief Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest while curfew like restrictions are in place in Old city part of Srinagar to thwart any possibility of rally towards Municipal Park in Lal Chowk.
Pertinently, Mirwaiz had called for a march towards Municipal Park on Friday to celebrate golden jubilee of his own party, Awami Action Committee.
Though the separatist group had not called for any strike but local business establishments, schools and public transport is off the roads in city with little movement of private vehicles.
He had announced a programme scheduled to be held in the Park but administration put in place restrictions to thwart any movement towards the venue.
Meanwhile, authorities have placed other Hurriyat (M) leaders under house arrest including Prof Abdul Gani Bhat, Maulana Abbass Ansari, Agha Hassan Almosvi, Adv Shahid Ul Islam. Mukhtar Ahmad Waza was detained at Awantipora on his way to Srinagar while Abdul Rasheed Hakeem was arrested from his home and lodged at police station Lal Bazaar.
