Sopore police cracked the murder case of Nazir Ahmad Naikoo who was shot dead at his home at Seeloo, Sopore, a police statement claimed on Sunday.
Giving details of the case the District police authorities stated, that at about 9 pm last night, masked gunmen barged inside the house of Khazir Mohammad Naikoo at Seeloo, Sopore and fired indiscriminately on the family members killing Nazir Ahmad Naikoo and critically injuring his nephew Shabir Ahmad Naikoo. Shabir received four bullets and was shifted Srinagar hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Sopore police registered a case FIR NO: 95/2014 U/S 302, 307 RPC and 7/27 Arms Act and initiated the investigation of the case. The house owner Khazir Mohammad disclosed that during mayhem that followed the attack he was able to identify one of the assailants as Mehraj-u-din Khan alias Raja Khan son of Sardar Mohammad Khan resident of Khan Mohalla, Mundji, Zangire Sopore, who was their relative and with whom their family had a land dispute. Police swung into action and apprehended Raja Khan from his house.
During preliminary investigation he revealed that a bitter land dispute was going on between the two families and previously a case FIR NO: 169/2011 U/S 307,148 RPC was also registered in police station, Sopore against him and his brothers which is still sub-judice in Baramulla court.
The police statement said that during sustained questioning, he confessed his involvement in the attack. “In the process of investigation it surfaced that the accused used the services of militants to settle the score with Naikoos,” the statement said adding “They approached one local HM militant Javaid Ahmad Matoo of Sopore town and in connivance and active participation of militants in the attack murdered Nazir Ahmad Naikoo and injured his nephew.”
“HM militant Javaid Matoo is wanted to Police in many vcases,” police said. Police has launched manhunt to arrest other accused involved in the murder.
