The second day of curfew in old city

Curfew remained in place in the old city areas on Friday on the second consecutive day.


Police sources said that the step has been taken to “maintain law and order.”


Curfew was imposed in the areas coming under seven police stations on Thursday evening after the killing of a youth at Nawakadal, by CRPF personnel during violent clashes.


All the front line leadership is undergoing detention since April 16. Police have arrested hundreds of youth as well to “ensure smooth polling”.


Though polling ended in the South and central Kashmir, however, most of the detained youth are still under custody.Police have already confirmed the arrest of 600 youth however, the separatists put the number up to 2000.


Meanwhile, reports of clashes have come from Bandipora and Kupwara areas in the North Kashmir. The area is going to vote for Lok Sabha elections on May 7.
