Our responsibility to take martyrs’ mission forward: Mirwaiz

SRINAGAR

In connection with the ongoing “Hafta-e-Shahadat”, Hurriyat Conference (Mirwaiz) Thursday held a seminar “Kashmir issue and responsibility of leadership” at Kralpora in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

The seminar was chaired by senior Hurriyat leader Prof Abdul Gani Bhat during which APHC Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq addressed the gathering by telephone.

Paying glowing tributes to ‘Martyrs of Kashmir’, Mirwaiz stated, “it is the responsibility of leaders to take forward the mission of martyrs to its logical conclusion.”

He stated that APHC (M) was engaged in a ‘peaceful struggle for freedom’, adding, all nefarious designs to inflict harm on aspirations and emotions of Kashmiris would be resisted by tooth and nail. “Permanent peace in South Asia is not possible till Kashmir issue is not resolved. Kashmiri struggle was not against an individual or a state, but for the right to self determination,” Mirwaiz said.

He called for the start of ‘serious efforts to solve the Kashmir dispute’. “Both India and Pakistan have a public mandated dispensation which has given them a unique opportunity to solve Kashmir issue,” he said.

Condemning the government for foiling the May 21 ‘Eidgah Chalo’, Mirwaiz said that all the Hurriyat programmes were stopped by shear “use of force while as the rallies and campaigns of pro-Indian parties were given full proof security”.

“For the sake of so-called democracy, authorities were not allowing Kashmiris to even pay tributes to their martyrs,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Abdul Gani Bhat said that the fact Kashmir is a disputed territory should be accepted, adding, without its solution, peace would not come in the region.

“Kashmir movement is the asset of martyrs lying with the Kashmiri people., he said, adding, “dialogue was the only option to solve the Kashmir dispute.”

Senior amalgam leader Bilal Gani Lone, who concluded the seminar, stated that Kashmir issue should be solved according to the wishes and aspirations of people.
