Authorities foil ‘Eidgah Challo’, restrictions in place

KL Report

SRINAGAR

Authorities on Wednesday put in place strict restrictions in the areas coming under seven police stations of the old city to foil “Eidgah Challo” programme of Hurriyat (M). Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been placed under house arrest to stop him from reaching Eidgah.

The said Hurriyat faction had called for “Eidgah Challo” to commemorate the 24th death anniversary of late Mirwaiz Mohammad Farooq. Late Mirwaiz was assassinated in his Nigeen residence on May 21, 1990.

Meanwhile, Kashmir valley is observing a shutdown on the call of Hurriyat (M).

Shops, educational institutions and business establishments are closed while very thin traffic is plying on roads in the uptown area which is not under restrictions.

Reports of shutdown have also come from all parts of Kashmir.
