National Institute of Technology, Srinagar is organizing its annual technical festival from May 24-26 that revivifies the technological streak and puts life into a number of events that are prodigious dealing with events such as robotic competitions, exhibitions, guest lectures, workshops, an official statement said.
“It provides a platform to identify the talents through a complete meritocracy. It is the first technical event taking place in the state where rewards worth three Lakh rupees will be given to the winners,” the statement added.
“Techvaganza 2014 is an initiative taken by the deemed university to create a platform for budding minds to share their technical ideas,” said Saqib Gulzar, media coordinator of the festival.
Besides, scientific workshops, lectures and project show casing, the three day event shall have extra academic events like photography, Para gliding, and many more sports activities,” said Faizan, one of the event organizers.
“We have Professor from MIT USA who shall be holding a special workshop for the students,” he added.
The Mechanical Engineering Department (MED) of the institute has taken a step towards some innovative competitions such as ‘Smack-down’, ‘Junkyard’, ‘Rock-It Up’ and ‘Rescue-bot’.
“In the event ‘Smack-down’, the robots will have to push, flip or drageach otherout of a well-defined ring. The last man standing will be dignified and rewarded. As far as the event ‘Junkyard’ is concerned, the participants will be given a number of scrap pieces and they will have to formulate a mechanism. Those participating in the event ‘Rock-It Up’ will be busy making and competing with their water rockets. ‘Rescue-bot’ is another robotic event wherein the participants will have to make a pick-and-place robot.”
“The festival intends to provide a platform for youngsters with an interest in technical know-how and gives a breakthrough to such other competitions which will take place under the same genre in the state”, said Arsalan Riyaz, a student.
