Old town Baramulla under siege, polling on elsewhere

Old town in Baramulla, is completely under siege and the people living in the area are not able to reach the new town as three out of four bridges have been closed by concertina wire while as severe clashes are going on, on the fourth one.


Four bridges connect the tow parts of the town out of which only one is open witnessing clashes.


“It is not polling like situation in the old town as people are caged in their homes,” Kashmir Life correspondent reported from the spot.


Meanwhile, polling for the 01- Baramulla and 04- Ladakh Parliamentary constituency started Wednesday morning with several areas reporting brisk voting during the first hour itself.


According to a government spokesman, large queues have been seen outside many polling stations with enthusiastic voters including first time voters besides female voters upbeat about exercising their right to vote.


As many as 15 candidates are in fray from Baramulla whereas 4 candidates are contesting from Ladakh Parliamentary Constituency.


At Pattan, during the first hour at Polling Station 88-A, as many as 63 votes were cast out of the total 570, at 89-B, as many as 29 votes have been cast out of the total electorate of 726 and at 106-C, as many as 56 voters had already cast their vote out of the total electorate of 809.


In Sonawari assembly segment, at Dangerpora Sumbal Polling Station, as many as 100 votes have been reported cast out of the total electorate of 1276.


In Kupwara Assembly Segment, at Batergam Polling Station, as many as 33 Voters had exercised their franchise during the first hour out of the total electorate of 629. At Zurhama Polling Station as many as 127 votes have been reported cast out of 500.
