Gani Vakil Blames Mis-governance For Coalition Decimation

SRINAGAR

Former minister and AICC member Abdul Gani Vakil has held polarization and mis-governance responsible for the Congress debacle in Jammu and Ladakh.

“Defeat is an unfortunate event but same was expected and inevitable in valley because dormant and casual approach of state government towards governance and curbing corruption had become intolerable,” Vakil said in statement. “If coalition government would have taken cognizance of irregularities in different departments including PHE, Agriculture, Education where 80% SSA school buildings are nonexistent or punished people who embezzled NREGA funds or involved in different scams the situation would have been altogether different today.”

Healthcare, Vakil said has fallen to lowest ebb in the state as a result thousands of infants died particularly in GB Panth Hospital, sale of spurious drugs is still rampant but government never fixed the responsibility. “Putting behind bars some private suppliers can not absolve government of its misdeeds,” Vakil said.

“I always tried to awaken the government but ignorance was prevailing upon people at the helm of affairs,” Vakil said.

Reminding NC of its political wrongs, Vakil said that even the sanctity and dignity of the House was mutilated. “Withdrawing members from a House Committee of Legislative Council which was constituted to look into forest land grabbing of a minister set a wrong precedence and endangered existence of democratic institutions,” Vakil said. “Instead of taking action against those involved, I was threatened of dire consequences and a contempt notice was slapped on me by the government.”

He has advised the coalition to utilize the remaining months in full and rededicate itself in achieving the developmental targets and put on track the governance system so that forthcoming assembly elections could be contested by showcasing decent performance. “Enough time is with the government to complete the probes ordered in different departments so that its credibility is restored,” he said.
