Clashes erupt in Kashmir Parts

Violent protests erupted in Bandipora, Palhallan and Sopore after Friday prayers against the killing of a youth in Srinagar two days back.


Bashir Ahmad Bhat was killed in CRPF firing at Nawakadal area of the city on Wednesday soon after the end of Lok Sabha polls for the Srinagar seat.


Clashes erupted in Bandipora area after hundreds of people took out a procession from the local Jamia Masjid and started stone pelting on police.


The protesters were raising anti-India and pro-freedom slogans and police swung into action against them resulting in the clashes.


Locals said that at least five persons were injured in the clashes which were going on when the reports last came in.


In the Apple town of Sopore, protesters pelted stones on the men in uniform before and after the Friday prayers.


Police used tear smoke canisters against the protesters in Bandipora and Sopore.


In volatile Palhallan area of Baramullah district, heavy stone pelting started early Friday morning. The locals alleged that forces came deep inside the village chasing the protesters and damaged window panes of residential houses.


Pertinently, a spontaneous shutdown is observed in Srinagar and many other areas of the valley.


Though, curfew is in place the old Srinagar areas, however, other parts of the city witnessed shutdown with deserted roads.
