Briefing

DAL LAKE

Pandith-Wedding-at-Centuar-HotelKashmiri Pandits are back, this time in a celebration mode! The trend of high profile weddings in Kashmir is picking up but what made this newsy is the list of invitees. Most of them included the migrated Pandit families. The setting wasn’t less than a high budget Bollywood film – immaculately dressed crowd, loud music and well-choreographed steps. Perhaps it had to be so; it was Ranjan Nehru’s son’s wedding! It was more like a reunion at a picturesque tourist destination. Dr Sameer Koul, Kuldeep Khoda (former DGP), Moti Lal (head of Pandit Conference Pune), and Ganjoos, Bakayas, Sarafs were part of the celebration.

MUMBAI

Bollywood-actress-in-KashmirThe Bollywood beauties are seen in Kashmir again. This time it is Yuvika Chaudhary. 32 year old actor shook legs with a ponywalla en route to an unknown snow-bound destination in Kashmir. Shot to prominence from a reality show Big Boss, Chaudhary has shared screen with Shah Rukh Khan. Of late Bollywood has been increasingly sending shooting crews to picturesque destinations in the valley.

KATRA

Modi-and-MehboobaAfter Ms Mehbooba Mufti took over as Chief Minister, it was PM Narendra Modi’s first visit to J&K. He was in Hindu rich Katra to inaugurate a 230-bedded super specialty hospital constructed by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board at the cost of whopping Rs 300 Crore. The inauguration turned many eyes towards the Kashmir Wakf which generates over Rs 19 crore annually and pays over Rs 12 crore to its employees!

LEH

With increased Chinese action aloang LoAC in the region, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh is seeking enhanced allocation for creation of infrastructure in the villages along India-Pakistan and India-China border during current year’s annual plan. Figures reveal that during 2014-15 financial year, an amount of Rs 13.28 crore was sanctioned for creation of infrastructure in various sectors in the villages along Indo-Pak and Indo-China border in the Leh district under Border Area Development Programme. However, the actual release was to the tune of Rs 11.95 crore only.

JAMMU

Taj-mohiuddinIn or out of assembly, Congress’ Taj is an interesting story. A newsy politician, Taj Mohi Ud Din’s ministerial days have come under scanner. Accused of illegally occupying hundreds of land in Kashmir and Jammu, Taj had altered the plan to establish Urology and Nephrology, Neurology and Neuro Surgery, Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery departments at Super Specialty Hospital (SSH) in winter capital when he was the health minister in Omar led government.

Instead, he ordered establishment of Gastroenterology department at SSH ostensibly to appoint his men illegally. Only investigations can prove him innocent!

RTI filed by Mannan Bukhari, a human rights defender, shows that 64 pellet injury patients were admitted in SMHS and JVC hospitals from January 2015 to 31 December 2015

271 schemes are being implemented under the ministry of Road Transport and Highways at an estimated cost of Rs 2573.88 crore
