Student Alleges Sexual Assault in Campus

A 14-year-old boy from north Kashmir’s Tangdar has accused the Principal of SP School, Srinagar of molesting him sexually.

Suhail Sajad Khwaja, a student of 9th standard told Kashmir Life that incident took place on 27th of this month when the principal of school Riyaz Ahmad Siddique saw him going to bathroom.

“A short while later, he too came inside,” Suhail said, his eyes almost welling up with tears. He said that principal asked him to down his pants and threw his arms around the boy, hugging him tightly. Suhail alleged that he offered him Rs 5,000 in return of keeping silence over the issue.

Panicked, Suhail wrestled himself free and fled the spot. When Suhail narrated the incident to his father back at home, he grew furious. The next day when his father Sajad Khwaja accompanied him to school, he was stopped and told by teachers to wait until “Riyaz sahib arrives.” The principal, upon meeting, asked Sajad to leave and don’t let his son come to the school ever again.

Sajad has been moving pillar to post ever since to get justice to his son. He filed a complaint at the police station but allegedly received a cold response. Sajad said that he phoned his concerned MLC in Tangdar who vowed to raise the issue and bring the perpetrator to book. But justice has been unforthcoming.

Despite repeated attempts, Principal SP College could not be reached for comments.
