In the run up to Police Public Mela, both police personnel and civilians Wednesday alleged that the ticket-book holders of J&K Police Wives Welfare Mela (PWWM) have been “forcing them to purchase tickets” for raffle draw that is going to held at the end of this month.
A group of police personnel from J&K Armed police 8th battalion told CNS that each man from the battalion was “forced to buy 15 tickets for Rs 600”. “I was intending to buy only two to three tickets but the ticket holders forced us to arrange money for the tickets,” said a constable wishing not to be named.
They appealed DGP to issue a direction to the ticket holders not to force police personnel to purchase tickets in bulk.
Meanwhile, a group of drivers from Rainawari and Saidakadal Srinagar alleged that they were also forced to purchase the police Mela tickets. “The ticket holders at different Nakas including Nigeen and Rainawari seize the documents of the drivers if he refuses to purchase the tickets,” said an Auto driver.
