Police have seized around 218 bovine animals being ferried to Kashmir in 39 trucks and other vehicles. Reports said that Police arrested around ten smugglers.
The seizure of bovine animals comes on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha which is being celebrated on Friday across Friday.
SSP Poonch JS Johar had visited area on Monday and alerted police staff at Surankote, Bafliaz and Behramgalla. The district police chief also replaced incharge Police Post Behramgall.
“The police parties under the supervision of SDPO Surankote, Riaz Tantray organised operation and laid half a dozen Nakas on Mughal Road and some other locations and managed to seize 39 trucks and other vehicles,” the reports said adding, “the police rescued 218 bovine animals packed in the vehicles mercilessly. The legs of some of the animals were tied to accommodate more animals.”
The police also intercepted a Scorpio bearing registration No JK02X/ 5271 in which three milch animals with their legs tied were packed and loaded in it by folding middle and back seats. The vehicle was seized and smugglers arrested.
This is the second seizure on Mughal Road. On September 20, 36 bovine animals were seized in Thanamandi and Surankote and 17 were seized in Samba and Kud.
