After Islamabad, Authorities Sound Flood Alert in Srinagar

Irrigation and Flood Control Department sounded flood alert for Srinagar district as water level at Ram Munshibagh breached 18 ft alert mark.

In an official communiqué, the department said, “The water level at Ram Munshibagh has touched the flood declaration mark of 18 ft, as such ‘the habitation residing along the embankments of the River Jhelum/Nallahs and low lying areas of Central Kashmir (Srinagar) are advised to remain vigilant.’ ”

Earlier today, the department had issued flood advisory for Islamabad district after Jhelum scaled above the 21 ft mark. The Gauge Reading at 1pm September 23, stood 21.90 ft (Orange) at Sangam, 18.10 ft (Orange) at Ram Munshibagh and 7.58 ft (Green) at Asham.

Moderate to heavy rains lashed parts of Kashmir valley since Monday trigging flood situation across the valley.
