Assembly session: Speaker reviews arrangements

The Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Mubarak Gul has asked the officers of different departments to work with dedication and unison and make the upcoming autumn session beginning from August 25 and concluding on August 30 a grand success.


Chairing a high level meeting of officers of civil and police convened Wednesday to review the arrangements made for the forth coming Assembly session, the Speaker directed the Security authorities to ensure deployment of adequate staff well versed with Parliamentary traditions within the premises of the Assembly Complex.


The Speaker asked them to make adequate arrangements for the safety and security of the MLAs both within the MLAs Hostel Srinagar and outside. He also asked them to nominate one Liaison Officer who will coordinate with the Watch and Ward staff of the Assembly Secretariat during the course of session. Mr. Gul directed the Traffic authorities to ensure proper regulation of traffic on roads leading to Legislature Complex and MLA’s Hostel Srinagar.


While reviewing the works executed by the Estates department, the Speaker asked the Director Estates to ensure completion of all repair and renovation works civil, electric and mechanical before the ensuing session.


Detailed discussions were also held on providing of sufficient and regular supply of water and uninterrupted power supply during the course of the Session.


The Department of PHE and Power Development Department assured the Speaker that necessary arrangements have already been taken to ensure regular supply of water and providing of uninterrupted power supply to the Legislature Complex.


While discussing the reopening of the Cafeteria in the Assembly Secretariat, the Speaker asked the Managing Director, JK Tourist Development Corporation (JKTDC) to ensure functioning of Cafeteria in the Assembly premises for providing Lunch, Tea, Coffee etc. on the analogy of previous year.


Medical Department were also asked to ensure adequate Medicare facilities both Allopathic and Indian System of Medicines (ISM) along with life saving drugs, oxygen and two well equipped Ambulances besides, a team of Physicians and Surgeon Specialists within the Assembly Complex and MLA’ s Hostel Srinagar.


Information department was asked to nominate three officers who will assist and keep harmonious relations between the press and the legislature and to ensure a proper and due coverage of the proceedings of the House. Gul also asked the Director Information to ensure Public Address System in the Assembly Hall as a standby measure and within the parking area.


Government Press was directed to ensure immediate and timely printing and supply of Parliamentary papers like A.Q lists, Bills etc on priority. The General Manager, Government Press informed the meeting that the department is available round the Clock and assured the Speaker that the requisite material will be available well in time.


The General Manager, BSNL was asked to ensure installation and providing of Commercial Fax and STD Phone for Press Room of Directorate of Information, National and State Press Correspondents in the Press Room.


Secretary, Assembly informed the meeting that the boarding and lodging facilities are available to the Legislators in MLA’s Hostel Srinagar.
