Drabu Concerned over Losses due to Hailstorm, seeks Compensation

Expressing concern over the massive damage to the standing crops and fruits due to hailstorm in the twin districts of Pulwama and Shopian, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and the party’s candidate for Rajpora assembly constituency, Dr Haseeb Drabu has asked the government to rush joint teams of revenue, horticulture and agriculture department officials to the affected areas for assessment of losses so that the affected farmers and orchardists are provided relief at the earliest.


Dr Drabu said the people in Pulwama and Shopian are mainly dependent on agriculture and horticulture for livelihood and damage to this sector due to hailstorm has set a serious blow to them who deserve compassionate treatment from the government.


He said the administration of the twin districts should act swiftly to access quantum of damage caused to the crops due to hailstorm and submit the report to the concerned authorities for managing required relief for the affected people.


Dr Drabu also called for institutionalizing the crop insurance scheme in the State so that the growers are assured of compensation for the losses suffered during such natural calamities.


Dr Drabu has also sought compensation for the damage caused to the residential houses and other properties due to the wind and hailstorm in the area.
