Died
An aged lady, formerly a teacher, died in an accident at busy Qamarwari Chowk last Wednesday evening. She was 63. Reports said that the lady died on spot when she came under rear tyre of 407 load carrier at around 7:30 PM. Her back portion of head was severely damaged and doctors at JVC declared her brought dead. Having served her life at Sainik School Manasbal for almost thirty years, she was unmarried.
Denied
Kashmir policemen going under training at SKPA Udhampur went for a hunger strike when they were allegedly being denied vacation by higher authorities. Reports said that the policemen belonging to Kashmir region were denied holidays against their counterparts from Jammu region. However, after intervention by higher ups, they called off their strike and were assured of vacations.
Rescued
SDRF team rescued six labourers from the debris of a collapsed house in Srinagar. Last Friday at about 11:40 AM, SDRF team launched a rescue operation soon after information regarding a house collapse reached them. The house belonging to Irfan Ahmad Kawoosa at Hyderpora, Srinagar was being renovated had collapsed. The house was jacked upon the studs through some machinery. ADGP Armed/ Home Guard and civil Defence S M Sahai announced cash reward for the team for saving precious human lives by their prompt action.
Found Dead
Locals of Nagbal Chandoosa informed Police last Friday that body of a villager Javed Ahmad Para son of Ghulam Rasool resident of Nagbal, Chandoosa is laying in a nearby maize field. A police party of police station Chandoosa rushed to the spot and recovered the body. The body bore injuries on the buttocks. Police suspects a relative’s hand in the case who is absconding and police have launched a hunt.
Recovered
Armed Forces last Thursday claimed to have unearthed a militant hideout and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition in Bandipora districts of Kashmir. Reports said that a militant hideout was busted in Maitrigam area of Bandipora district where a huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered. They said the recoveries included seven AK 47 rifles, five pistols, one UBGL, 74 rounds of UBGL, 21 hand grenades and large quantity of AK and pistol ammunition.

The District Level screening-cum-consultative committee meeting held under the chairmanship of District Magistrate, Baramulla sanctioned Rs 44 lakh in favour of 11 militancy related victims as cash compensation, Rs 16 lakh to next of kin of the deceased persons and Rs 20 lakh 50 Thousand in favour of 4 property damaged cases, besides Rs75,000 in favour of injured persons, an official statement said on Wednesday. The committee took up several cases, among which 32 cases were settled on the spot while as other cases were referred to concerned agencies for re-verification.

Scribes operating in North Kashmir Baramulla and Sopore towns Wednesday alleged that Army is ‘forcing’ them to reveal their ‘sources’ and mode of function in their respective places. They alleged that Army has been continuously calling them on their cell numbers directing them to provide all the details including the sources from whom they obtain information about a particular news report. When contacted, Captain Raghav posted at 22 RR Pazalpora camp said that they have received formal instructions from their Sopore Head Quarters to collect all the details about the scribes function in Sopore and other parts of North Kashmir.
Suspended
After expelling ten Kashmiri students in March this year for allegedly cheering for the Pakistan Cricket team, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University Meerut has suspended two more Kashmiri students whose names according to their parents never figured in the controversy that time. One of the expelled student while speaking from Meerut, pursuing BBA course, said that his career is over and no College will provide him admission at this time. “The University authorities accuse me of appearing before media in the midst of controversy,” he said.
Detained
Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani after meeting Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit after India cancelled Secretary Level Talks landed at Srinagar Airport Wednesday afternoon. He was immediately put under house arrest, again. Reports said that two polices vehicles followed Geelani and as he went inside his residence the main gate was closed by police personnel who had already reached the spot.
