The Cambridge University today organized a Teachers Training Programme at their affiliated International Islamic School (IIS) Peerbagh to upgrade the skills of their tutors.
“The main aim of this programme was to train the teachers in tune with international level. IIS is the only school in Kashmir and mainland India to be affiliated with Cambridge University with entire syllabus and teaching methods coming from the prestigious university,” a statement from the management of the school said.
“Teaching is a demanding job and one has to continuously upgrade his or her skills at par with global standards,” said Gazala Siddiqui, Oral Examiner Cambridge ESOL and resource person for the programme.
“Every day there is some new innovation or new methods coming up, and this programme was to train the teachers in some of those methods,” she said
Gazala said that it is the motto of Cambridge to lead from the front in developing new teaching methodologies.
“The only thing which I found lacking here is the lack of exposure both among teachers and the students,” said Gazala. “No doubt they are brilliant and have potential to achieve new heights but they need to work hard in this sector.”
She advised student exchange programmes and exploring new platforms for students and teachers to get benefited. “In today’s globalized world, there is extreme pressure on students to achieve so teachers have to continuously upgrade their skills to make teaching-learning process easy for students,” said Gazala.
Tariq Ahmad, chairman IIS said that the school has the policy of utilizing the services of best trainers for the benefit of students.
“After being part of Cambridge University we are obliged to always keep up with their teaching methodologies,” said Tariq.
“Apart from their syllabus we have made Arabic and Nimaz obligatory here too. So we are trying to provide best of both worlds to students.”
“We have introduced the concept of smart classes and Montessori Education method too and that is attracting huge response from people,” said Tariq.
