Militants barge into police post, fled with weapons

SRINAGAR: In the shivering temperature, situation is getting really hot down south. Suspected militants have taken an unspecified number of weapons from a police post in Shopian, reports reaching here said.

Though no senior police official was accessible at this point of time, sketchy details suggested that a group of suspected militants silently jumped into the police post outside the Court Complex in Shopian and took away their service rifles. Neither the number of militants was immediately known nor the number of invading outsiders, presumed to be rebels.

Efforts to get details from concerned police failed as nobody picked the phone. Reports said that neither side fired even a single bullet.

The reports came a day after five cops and two private bank guards were literally massacred in a Kulgam village soon after they dropped the cash in the belt.

Prior to that there was a serious weapon snatching attempt near DC office in Islamabad where CRPF managed catching hold of one snatcher as the second one fled. There were a series of incidents in which the militants looted banks in the belt.

The attacks came in the backdrop of emergence of a number of videos of partially-accessible social websites suggesting fresh recruits getting into the jungles. The latest videos suggested as many as 30 militants in one single group and incidentally it is from some south Kashmir jungles.
