Protests and clashes erupted in Trehgam area of Kupwara district of Kashmir on Sunday in the aftermath of killing of Hizbull Mujahideen Commander Sabzar Ahmad Bhat and his colleague Faizan Muzzafar Bhat and a civilian in an encounter in Tral area of Pulwama district on Saturday.
The area was observing shutdown and youth were protesting in main market when police party arrived resulting in clashes between two sides, locals said. The youth pelted stones on police near Trehgam Jamia Masjid while as police resorted to teargas shelling, they said.

Witnesses said that a teargas shell hit a stack of dried grass which caught fire.
“The fire tender reached the spot immediately and doused the flames,” an official at Fire and Emergency Service station Trehgam told Kashmir Life over phone.
Local sources said that a youth received pellet injuries in the face. The injured was being rushed to local health facility when last reports came. “The clashes are on and police is firing teargas shells and sound bombs intermittently,” they said.
On Saturday, clashes were reported from same area. People said that, forces resorted to aerial firing after protesting youth rained stones on forces’ vehicles. “The firing created panic in the area.”
All major towns across Kashmir are observing shutdown on the call given by joint separatist leadership to mourn the killings.
