More than a dozen candidates from J&K crack IAS

SRINAGAR: Though the final list is yet to be around, indications suggest that more than 12 candidates from J&K have cracked UPSC examination this year. Bilal Mohiuddin Bhat figures at rank 10.

Details are yet to emerge but random detailing suggest that more than 12 candidates from J&K have cracked the civil service examination.

These include Bisma Qazi, rank 115, Suhail Qasim Mir, rank 125, Saqib Yousuf, rank 472, Faisal Javed, rank 210, Inabat Khaliq, rank 604 and many others who seemingly are from Kashmir.

There are many from Jammu region as well. These include Ayushi, Viran Baghat and Akhil Mahajan.

Bhat, who has topped from the J&K, was earlier a KAS officer. A resident of Haripora in Handwara, Bhat is son of a former KAS officer. He is a trained veterinarian who qualified KAS and later IFS. “All examinations I qualified in the first attempt but the civil service was a problem because I attempted thrice,” Bhat told Kashmir Life from Lucknow where he is posted for last four years as an IFS officer. “Interestingly I qualified the prelims the day my daughter Maryam was born on September 19, last.”

Bhat graduated from Forest Research Institute Deharadun in August 2015. Bhats’ have been living in Srinagar since they migrated in 1993. He graduated from SKUAST Jammu earlier. “It was outcome of hard work I have been putting in since 2010 when I graduated from SKUAST.”

“It is a moment of pride for me,” an excited Bisma Qazi told Kashmir Life. A resident of Rambnagh, she has studied from Mallinson and is a trained engineer. She had attempted the civil service examination in 2013 but could not make it. A re-attempt in 2016 made her happy as she finally cracked the examination.
