Sabzar Killing: Kashmir Shuts, restrictions, curfew imposed

Following the outbreak of widespread protests and clashes in Kashmir over the killing of top militant commander of Hizbul Mujahideen, his aide and a civilian on Saturday, curfew and restrictions have been imposed in the Kashmir valley by the authorities fearing worsening of law and order.

Kashmir is observing complete shutdown in wake of two day shutdown call by the joint separatist camp over the killings. All the roads remained deserted while as shops and other business establishments remain shut across Kashmir valley.

District Magistrate Srinagar on Saturday said that, in view of the prevailing law and order situation, strict restrictions have been imposed within the territorial jurisdiction of seven police stations of Srinagar district, including Khanyar, Nowhatta, Safakadal, M R Gunj, Rainawari, Kralkhud, Maisuma. The restrictions will continue till further orders.

In other districts of valley restrictions have been imposed. Authorities said Section 144 CrPc has been imposed in Ganderbal, Badgam, Bandipora and Kupwara.  Similarly in southern part of valley heavy security deployment has been placed in and around major towns.

On Friday as the reports of encounter between militants and government forces in Saimu village of Tral township of Pulwama spread, people of adjoining areas took to the streets and begun marching towards encounter site. As the gun battle was going on, reports said, people clashed with forces in an attempt to help the trapped militants flee.

In the clashes one person was killed and dozens were left with injuries by bullets, pellets and teargas shells.

Reports said that eight of the injured were hit by bullets and seven have suffered pellet injuries. The injured were hospitalized.

One of the injured, identified as Sameer Ahmad, a 12th class student, from Mattan Higher secondary School of Islamabad district was reported to be critical as his skull has suffered fracture after being hit in head by  teargas shell, Doctors at Srinagar’s SMHS hospital informed.
