Army on Tuesday claimed to have busted a drug racket near Line of Control (LoC) in Bhimber Gali, Poonch District. “The Army apprehended Mohd Kasim, who peddled drugs in India across the border. They also recovered two packets of heroin worth Rs 2 crore from Kasim,” reports said.

The 23-year-old peddler, who is identified as son of Mohd Mushtaq Chowdhary, is a resident of Poonch’s Hamirpur village in Balakot block, Mendhar tehsil. Working under the garb of a cattle graze, Kasim had gone to the LoC, where he received the drug consignment from a Pakistani Administered Kashmir national.
The Army had a tip off about the exchange, so the alert troops challenged and apprehended the individual, the reports said.
The apprehension is a significant blow to the nefarious designs of Pakistan Army in facilitating narcotics smuggling to “fund terrorism” in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. An FIR has been lodged with Poonch Police. The Army and local police have conducted a thorough search in the area and further investigations are under progress.
