Kargil girl students take to streets against LAHDC

Srinagar

Hundreds of girl students in Kargil on Thursday staged a massive protest demonstration against Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) alleging it of failing on all fronts.

The protesting students demanding sanitation, drinking water, laboratory, library, first aid center facilities also demanded replacement of principal, from the school.

The students marched from girl’s higher secondary school to Lal-chowk where the students raised slogans against the local administration for failing to deliver basic facilities.

The students said that while on one hand the slogan of “Beti Bacaho Beti Padao” is being raised but there is no basic sanitation and other facilities available in Kargil fro girl students.

They further added that despite being the only girls higher secondary school in the entire district the male principal is not even paying attention on any single demand of the students.

Meanwhile police and civil administration tried to convince the students to call of the demonstration, but the protesters refused by insisting that local executive councilor LAHDC Kargil for education should come and redress their demands. The protest continued for two hours which hampered traffic in the town.

Later EC LAHDC Kargil Advocate Amir along Additional deputy commissioner Kacho Turab Shah assured the students that their demands will be fulfilled on priority.
