Lailat al Mehraj

Mehraj-ul-Alam was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety across Jammu and Kashmir. Thousands of devotees thronged the shrines and masjids and had night-long special prayers.

The biggest congregation of the Mehraj-ul-Alam function was held at Hazratbal shrine.

Devotees, comprising men, women and children converged at the shrine housing the holy relic of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) throughout the day on Tuesday.

As the relics were displayed, most of people were seen folding their hands while some had tears trickling down their face as they prayed to have their wishes fulfilled on the occasion.

Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah, working president Omar Abdullah, Pradesh Congress Committee chief Ghulam Ahmad Mir greeted the people on the occasion.

This is the day to mark the anniversary of the day on which  Prophet Muhammad (SAW) ascended to heaven.

The devotees prayed for peace, tranquility and well-being of entire world
