Srinagar: Twenty eight aspirants from Jammu & Kashmir who were coached by the army have cracked the IIT-JEE mains exams this year. The students were given coaching as part of the army’s ‘Kashmir Super-40’ initiative to help local youth prepare for the exam.
According to army spokesman, the qualified includes twenty six boys and two girls.
“Achieving a success rate of 78%, the result of Army’s Kashmir Super-40 is at par with the best IIT coaching centres in the country,” he said.
Among the qualified, nine are from south Kashmir, ten from north Kashmir, seven from Kargil / Ladakh and two from the Jammu region,” the spokesperson added.
This was the first batch in which five girls from Kashmir valley were coached in Delhi. Two of them qualified.
Under this flagship scheme, candidates are selected by the army through an entrance test and interview conducted at various colleges throughout the state in the month of April or May.
The coaching and accommodation is provided free of cost to the students and is sponsored under the CSR initiative by Petronet LNG.
