UN repertoire seeks your comments on Kashmir Internet ban

Srinagar
A day after State government issued order banning of Social media in kashmir valley, United Nations repertoire on free speech David Kaye tweeted on Thursday asking people in Kashmir to tell him whether they are able to access internet. He said people in Kashmir should email him about what they know on internet ban.

He said, “I can tweet this. Can someone in #Kashmir? Share what you know via email at my profile https://t.co/CJCaRrm32Q ”

The order of banning social media has drawn huge media outrage locally as well as globally. The tweet has a link to a Buzzfeed report on Kashmir social media ban.

Later quoting the tweeting he thanked those who responded and asked, “i’m interested what ppl are experiencing on the ground. do u have mobile access? internet? other media? #Kashmir,”

Notably internet service providers are facing technical issues in banning the selected websites and applications so far which has made the ban almost a failure on ground. Internet junkies are using VPN to overcome whatever little obstacles the ban is creating.
