J&K’s new Chief Justice takes over

JAMMU: Governor N N Vohra administered Oath of Office to Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed as Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court at an impressive Oath Ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan here today.

The Warrant of Appointment of Justice Ahmed as Chief Justice of the J&K High Court was read out by the Registrar Vigilance of the High Court.

After administering Oath to Justice Ahmed the Governor congratulated him and wished him a successful tenure as Chief Justice of the State High Court.

Justice Ahmad is the son of India’s former president Dr Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed.

An economics lecturer in St Stephen’s College, Ahmad was enrolled as an advocate 1980. He was appointed a Judge of the Delhi High Court in December 2002. Prior to that, Ahmad was Secretary of Ghalib Institute, Delhi.

Justice Ahmad has a son and a daughter.

Mrs Usha Vohra, First Lady; Ms Mehbooba Mufti; Chief Minister; Dr Nirmal Kumar Singh, Deputy Chief Minister; Kavinder Gupta, Speaker Legislative Assembly; Haji Anayat Ali, Chairman Legislative Council; Cabinet Ministers; serving and retired Judges of Supreme Court and J&K High Court, Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, high ranking Civil, Judicial and Police officers, senior Advocates, and friends and family members of Justice Ahmed were present on the occasion.
