SRINAGAR: A soldier was arrested at the airport and two live grenades were recovered from him. A case has also been registered.
Police sources told Kashmir Life that the recovery was reported during the routine baggage scan of the soldiers who were flying out in a special flight. He was immediately taken into arrest and the investigations have started.
Reports said the detained soldier belonged to 17-JAKLI. His belt no is 13768297. He belongs to Bosoli village in Kurseong district of West Bengal’s Darjeeling district. He was deployed in the Uri sector on the LoC.
During the initial investigations, the soldier has told the investigators that the two grenades belonged to his officer. These were supposed to be handed over to somebody in Delhi, he has claimed. Police said they are verifying his claims and investigation is at initial phase.
This is not for the first time that soldiers flying out of Kashmir were carrying live ammunition. Earlier, a soldier was arrested with live bullets during the baggage scan at Srinagar airport.
On February 20, 2017, anti hijacking wing of the state police arrested rifleman P K Gouda carrying 15 live rounds of AK 57 and Self Loading Rifle. As he was arrested, the police went into an instant security alert. He belonged to 47-Rashtriya Rifles. Police have not offered any details of this incident in follow up.
