Police and paramilitary forces during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday conducted nocturnal raids in Dar Mohalla and Tantary Mohalla in the outskirts of Srinagar city’s Rawalpora area.

Reports and local sources said that the forces personnel raided the area during the night to arrest youth.

In Dar Mohalla, locals alleged, forces resorted to smashing of window panes and vandalizing the property.

“They had come to arrest the youth, who, they said, were involved in stone pelting and pro-freedom protests.”

“They came inside the houses thrashing inmates who were in deep sleep,” a local said.

In Tantary Mohalla, a local scribe, who said his house was damaged by police forces during the raid, told Kashmir Life, “They resorted to massive vandalism and broke whatever came their way.”

He said, “Forces jumped into our lawns and threw stones at our house.”

My father, who was sleeping, came out and objected to the “vandalism”. However, he said, police threatened him and hurled choicest abuses on him.

A Police official at Police station Sadder rejected the claims of vandalism and accused locals of indulging in lies.

However, he said three youth have been arrested from the area during a raid.
