A marriage ceremony turned into a tragedy when the bride’s uncle died as he inhaled carbon monoxide generated by a kerosene-run generator at Gundmacher village of Kupwara district last night, tribuneindia reported.

Quoting health officials, the report said that Abdul Khaliq Bhat 38, was brought dead to the nearby sub-district hospital at Sogam this morning. “Two other guests — Ashiq Hussain Wani and Abdul Majid Wani — who were given oxygen supply in bulk were now out of danger.”

“The victim was sleeping in the room where the generator was kept after many hours of service. The generator exhaled carbon monoxide during the night which caused his death. Two others sleeping in the same room were brought to the hospital in an unconscious state ,” Dr Fridous Ahmad, block medical officer, Sogam, told the newspaper.

“They were given oxygen and saved,” he added. The deceased is survived by three daughters and a son.
