Locals refused To Take Cheques From MLA Iddgah

KL Report

SRINAGAR

MLA Iddgah faced embarrassing moments at Pamposh Colony Iddgah in Old Srinagar city when scores of residents seized his vehicle when he tried to offer five cheques of Rs Five Thousand each to five flood victims of the locality. The agitated residents while refusing to take those cheques demanded major relief as according to them they suffered heavily due to recent floods.

The agitated residents of Pamposh Colony later on arrived at Press Enclave and staged a protest against concerned MLA for showing indifferent attitude towards their miseries. The protesters alleged that MLA Iddgah tried to silence few of his workers by providing cheques of Rs 5,000 each. “Our houses were damaged in floods and we suffered heavy losses. For the first time after floods MLA Idgah visited the area. Instead of consoling us, he added fuel to the fire. MLA Iddgah should understand that we cannot even buy material for a single window from such meager amount,” one of the protesters Abdul Ahad told CNS.

The protesters said that they had no option but to seize the vehicle of the concerned MLA when he visited the area. “We were not ready to release his vehicle, but it was only after the police officials assured us of speedy relief, locals released his vehicle,” another protester said adding that so far they have not received a single penny from the government.

The protesters appealed to the Government to dispatch a team to assess the looses in the area. They alleged that a team comprising of Revenue officials who visited the area a week ago ignored the sufferers while registered the names of affluent ones. They appealed Deputy Commissioner Srinagar to look into the matter.
