SRINAGAR
With Durbar Move closing on October 31 in Srinagar some senior officers have preferred to keep away from their offices and surprisingly some of them have flied to Jammu in advance.
On Friday when KNS correspondent visited a number of offices in Srinagar it painted a dismal picture. “Sahab Jammu main hain (the officer is in Jammu),”said a peon outside official chamber of Managing Director JK SICOP.
Similarly when this correspondent visited the office of Managing Director JK Cements it was locked and the peon said “Sahab Ji Yaha nahi aaye bhut din say, (Sir has not come here from several days).”
A top government official wished anonymity said, “Work in the departments involving public dealing has come to a grinding halt. Though lower ranking officials reach the offices but are not able to work in absence of the in-charges. You need the presence of higher officials if you want to do some work.”
Meanwhile, sources informed that unable to bear the enormous pressure and work load without the higher officials’ some of the low ranking officials prefer to go on leave or not attend offices on some or the other pretext.
Sources said that the disinterest of the officials could be gauged from the fact that most of the HoDs and other higher officials were last time spotted in their offices before the floods.
The visitors expressed displeasure over the functioning of the Government offices.
“I fail to understand that despite full six days of working, they are not attending their offices. I came here from Baramulla to meet the MD Housing Board but his office bearers told me that he will not come here before the Durbar Move and surprisingly when I went to Civil Secretariat to meet the concerned minister his office was also locked.
“Political parties first promises lot and then fails to deliver the same,” Jahangir Ahmad of Baramulla said.
