SRINAGAR: Srinagar District has secured a prominent position among the Top Ranking Cities of India in the Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan – 2023 (Clean Air Survey) conducted by the Central Pollution Control Board, Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MEFCC) under its National Clean Air Programme, a DIPR said in a statement.
Srinagar’s successful feat in the category of Cities with a population exceeding 10 lakhs is highlighted by its impressive 4th rank nationwide. The city follows Indore, Agra, and Thane City, which secured the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd ranks respectively. The commendable 5th rank was secured by Bhopal City of Madhya Pradesh, making it a collective victory for clean air initiatives across the country.
The recognition of Srinagar City’s efforts to improve air quality underscores the steps taken by the District Administration under the ambit of the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP). The city’s air quality journey was steered by Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad, who also leads the District Level Implementation and Monitoring Committee for the implementation of NCAP in Srinagar.
Elated by the achievement, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, extended his heartfelt congratulations to the entire team of the District Administration, including Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Committee. Expressing his dedication to the cause, Deputy Commissioner Asad affirmed that the collaborative efforts would continue to elevate Srinagar City into a more desirable place to reside.
The comprehensive approach taken under the NCAP umbrella includes strategic missions such as life rejuvenation of wastelands, large-scale plantation drives, construction of fountains, procurement of advanced cleaning and sweeping machines, and information, education, and communication activities. These concerted actions reflect the District Administration’s dedication to enhancing the Air Quality Index in Srinagar District, aligning with the overarching goals of the National Clean Air Programme.
