Omar Abdullah Thanks Advocates For Article 370 Defense In SC

SRINAGAR: National Conference Vice-President and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, expressed his gratitude on Wednesday to all the advocates who stood with the people of J&K and defended Article 370 in the Supreme Court.

Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Omar Abdullah said, “I am grateful to all the advocates who stood with the people of J&K and defended Article 370 in the Supreme Court.”

Notably, a five-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, initiated proceedings on pleas challenging the abrogation of Article 370 and 35(A) two weeks ago. On August 05, 2019, the Government of India nullified the special status of J&K and downgraded the erstwhile state into two Union Territories – J&K and Ladakh.

Omar told reporters, “I am satisfied with the proceedings and believe we couldn’t have done better than the way our advocates put forth arguments before the five-member bench in defense of Article 370 and 35(A). From Kapil Sibal to Gopal Shankar Narayan, everyone defended well and presented valid arguments.”

He expressed hope that the ball is now in the court of the five-member bench, and they are hopeful that the people of Jammu and Kashmir will receive justice from the Supreme Court.

During the occasion, the former Chief Minister also expressed hope for the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3. “We are hopeful of the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3. With this achievement, India will become the first country to land a probe on the south pole of the moon,” Omar said. (KNS)
