SRINAGAR: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has reconstituted Congress Working Committee members.
From Jammu and Kashmir, two Congressmen have been appointed to the CWC. While Tariq Hameed Kara continues to remain the permanent invitee, Kharge has taken former PCC Chief GA Mir as a member of the CWC. This is for the first time that Mir has been nominated to Congress’s top decision-making body.
Insiders said the seat was perpetually filled by Ghulam Nabi Azad and after his resignation the space was filled by Mir.
Kharge has also included Sachin Pilot and Shashi Tharoor to the CWC. While Pilot had rebelled, Tharoor unsuccessfully ran for the post of Congress chief against Kharge in the internal polls in 2022.
Other leaders including Former Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi, Anand Sharma, Naseer Hussain, Alka Lamba, Supriya Srinate, Praniti Shinde, Pawan Khera, Ganesh Godiyal, Yashomati Thakur have also been been included in the list of Congress Working Committee. Of them Tharoor, Anand Sharma and Mukul Wasnik were part of the group of 23 leaders that had raised questions on the party’s leadership under Sonia Gandhi.
The decision making CWC has 39 members including 32 permanent invitees and 13 special invitees.
Mir, in a statement issued t the media, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for his nomination as member of the Congress party’s highest decision-making Body at national level.
“It is truly a great honour for a grass root level worker from a remote area to be in CWC. I am delighted over the trust and confidence Congress Highly Command has reposed in me,” Mir said, insisting that making it to CWC is indeed a great honour. “I can assure my Party High Command that I shall work with more devotion and dedication and serve the Party to the best of my ability.”
