SRINAGAR: Saifullah Qadri, a Selection Grade Constable (SgCT) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, has been honoured with the Shaurya Chakra by the Ministry of Defence on Independence Day.
This recognition comes in light of Qadri’s remarkable display of courage during the Bhishember Nagar operation in Srinagar against militants.
In response to this announcement, Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh conveyed his congratulations to the family of the brave heart. He also expressed gratitude towards the Ministry of Defence for bestowing this significant honour upon the J&K Police.
DGP Singh emphasised that such recognition of the valor and sacrifices of the J&K Police will undoubtedly bolster the morale of the force’s personnel in their ongoing battles against various forms of militancy within the Union Territory.
SgCt Saifullah Qadri’s extraordinary actions on April 10, 2022, were instrumental in locating and neutralising two militants in Srinagar’s Bishamber Nagar area. Despite facing intense gunfire, he managed to eliminate the militants but sadly lost his life on May 24, 2022.
That day, he was accompanying his daughter when militants opened fire on him near Soura. He later succumbed to his injuries. His daughter, 9, also received bullet injuries in the attack.
For his exceptional bravery, Qadri has posthumously been awarded the esteemed “Shaurya Chakra.”
Three soldiers who fell in the line of duty were also awarded Shaurya Chakras.
Major Ravinder Singh Rawat of the Armoured Corps/44th Battalion the Rashtriya Rifles was awarded Shaurya Chakra for exhibiting inspiring leadership during conduct of 11 successful operations, resulting in killing of 28 militants since March 2020 in Shopian.
Major Vijay Verma of the Rajput Regiment/44th Battalion Rashtriya Rifles was awarded Shaurya Chakra for exhibiting inspiring leadership and conduct of 10 successful operations, resulting in killing of of 22 militants. He has been operating in Shopian since October 2021.
Major Sachin Negi of Grenadiers/ 55th Battalion of the Rashtriya Rifles was also awarded Shaurya Chakra. He had exhibited exceptional professionalism and bravery in six successful operations resulting in killing of 14 militants in Pulwama sector.
Major Rajendra Prasad Jat of the Dogra Regiment/ 62nd Battalion Rashtriya Rifles was awarded Shaurya Chakra for exhibited unparalleled valour and exceptional leadership in Operation Watrehal leading to killing of three militants.
