Due to massive landslides on Jammu-Srinagar highway near Ramban hundreds of vehicle are struck since morning.

There is a complete traffic mess on the highway and passengers are perturbed.

The traffic was scheduled to ply from Jammu to Srinagar, but there was abrupt halt after a hillock slide at Karul Bridge, four Kilometers short of Ramban.

While briefing about the situation, IG Traffic Shafkat Watali told Kashmir Life that the road was clear for traffic and traffic had started to move from 5 am in the morning.

However, there was a hillock slide near Ramban, quarter to nine that halted the traffic, he said, “Since then five machines are on job but they are unable to clear the road.”

As the main road could not be cleared, traffic police has diverted traffic through Matra link road.

“This is a narrow road and vehicles have to pass through ropeway bridge,” IG traffic said.

All the Heavy vehicles have been stopped and LMV’s are only allowed to move, he informed.

Eyewitness said that, the slide was so massive and fearful that it fell like an earthquake.

Passengers who are stuck in the traffic jam are aghast as they are facing inconvenience.

“We left Jammu at 8 am and are yet to reach Chanderkot,” a passenger said, while talking to Kashmir Life at 6:30 pm.

As per IG traffic only 1000 vehicles have managed to cross Jawahar tunnel while more than 1700 are stranded in traffic jam.

“We will ensure that by 9 in evening all the light passenger vehicles get crossed,” IG said.

He informed that Highway would remain closed tomorrow as stranded vehicles will be cleared.
