Karnah-Kupwara road remains blocked for 9th day, area without electricity, essential supplies

Two patients die in Karnah area of Kupwara district on Wednesday, and many others are suffering due to non-availability of medical facility. For the 9th consecutive day the Karnah-Kupwara road remains blocked due to which people are facing many hardships.

Inhabitants said that the authorities here have failed to press men and machinery to clear the accumulated snow on roads thereby leaving the people to lurch at large.

He said, two elderly patients, Habib Joo, 75, and Resham Jan, 65, die because they could not get medical care. According to the families, both the patients had sever health problems and doctors advised to refer them Srinagar for more treatment, but die to the road closure they could not be moved.

A dead body of Shakeel Begum, who dies in Jammu last week and after 8 days of her death she was yet to reach Karnah, residents said that after government fail to lift her body to Karnah the family itself with the help of resident of Chowkibal residents, they carried the body by foot 15km to cross the Sadhna top.

Alleging that the Beacon machines are lying defunct; the residents said the authorities are ignoring their plights with taking no action in this regard. “We have been left to face hardships due to the closure of Karnah-Kupwara road,” they said.

The inhabitants demanded immediate redressal of their genuine grievances.

Inhabitants said that the authorities had promised a few days back that the road will be reopened after some hours but unfortunately all in vain.

The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Khan said that the administration is closely monitoring the situation and is proving all possible help to the people of far flung areas.

Meanwhile the MLA Karnah said that he has requested for the permanent Helicopter service for the Karnah areas till a tunnel at Sadhna top is constructed.
