The militant killed in the Shopian encounter has been identified as Waseem Ahmad Khanday from Zarkan Kellar village of Shopian.
Polic and army said that an encounter broke between suspected militants and forces Saturday morning in Dobjan forests of Shopian district.
Khanday, according to police had joined Hizb-ul-Mujahideen just a month ago after snatching rifle from the CPI (m) politician, Abdul Rehman Tukroo’s residence in the same district.
The slain militant is from Zarkan Kellar village of Shopian.
Army’s 44 RR and SOG had launched a search operation in deep Dobjan forests along the Mughal road over the militant presence.
The body of the slain has been recovered and brought to district police lines Shopian, police sources said.
