#Day117: No Markets Open In Islamabad, Sgr Parts; Protests In Kani Kadal

Scores of youth resorted to stone pelting in South Kashmir’s Islamabad town on Wednesday afternoon after reports of clashes reached from Soura area. Summer capital too witnessed low trade activity during relaxation hours in shutdown.

Reports said that some youth started stone pelting in Lal Chowk area resulting in chaos and people began running for safety.

There was slight movement of private vehicles in the area and some street vendors were also present in the market.

Stone pelting was reported from Lal Chowk, Reshi Bazaar and Mattan Chowk, locals said.

However, forces rushed to the area and chased the stone pelters, reports said, “youth escaped from the spot safely.”

Market in the town is yet to open despite the relaxation in shutdown by the Hurriyat Conference and according to the locals, “tension has gripped the area.”

Meanwhile, in Bugam village of Kulgam district, forces arrested few youth during nocturnal raids late on Tuesday night. Locals said that the youth were arrested from their homes.

Reports coming from Old Srinagar’s Kani Kadal and Chotta Bazar areas said that people held pro-freedom protests this evening.

Reports said that people held pro-freedom protests against killing and blinding of innocents people in valley in last 117 days in Kashmir valley amid “we want freedom”, “go India go back” slogans.

All the shops remained closed in the area even during relaxation time in shutdown by the resistance leadership.

In Lal Chowk, unlike other days, announcements were made in Jehangir Chowk, Maharaj Bazaar and Hari Singh High Street that all the shops would remain closed this evening.

“There will be no trade during the relaxation hours in shutdown,” reports said. However, shops opened on Residency Road Regal Chowk areas.

There is very less movement of traffic today as well.

Similar reports of shutdown reached from Nowhatta area of Downtown.
