Missing Varsity Student: Police denies arrest

Srinagar: A spokesman of police said the Proctor of University of Kashmir has reported to police on February 22, 2017 that Aqib Mushtaq Malik is missing.

Son of Mushtaq Ahmad, Aqib is a resident of Pinjura Shopian and enrolled in 3rd Semester of LLB University of Kashmir. He has been missing since February 21, evening.

Following this information a missing report was lodged in Police Station Nigeen and efforts are being made to trace out the missing student.

“Meanwhile, some of the students have alleged that the missing student was picked by police,” the spokesman said. “The allegations are refuted as the missing student was not required for any investigation by police.”

The spokesman sought cooperation from students, relatives and his friends of Aqib in tracing out the said student at the earliest.

Students in the University of Kashmir had protested during the day and accused the cops of arresting the student.

Meanwhile Hurriyat Conference (m) has expressed concern over the disappearance of Aquib Mir for the past several days. The alliance termed the protest demonstration of KU students demanding his whereabouts as justifiable, reasonable and legitimate.

The spokesman said Kashmiri students have often been at the receiving end of atrocities and harassment while the just demands of these students are meted with excessive use of force by government forces. He said it is the duty of the government to trace the whereabouts of disappeared student.
