In the last two years 1422 cases of rape and domestic violence have been registered in different police stations across Jammu and Kashmir.
Govt in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Wednesday in a written reply stated that 595 cases of rape and 827 cases of domestic violence have been registered.
In Kashmir total number of rape cases in these two years has been stated as 2013 and in Jammu the number is 382.
Total of these cases of rape, 237 have been challenged in court, the documents figure, while as 252 cases are still being investigated.
In Kashmir 368 cases of domestic violence have been registered while in Jammu region the number has been stated as 459.
Out of these cases, 341 have been challenged and 439 are under Investigation.
The documents also mention that 2994 cases of matrimonial disputes have also been registered by J&K State Commission for Women since its inception. These include cases of, divorce, maintenance, harassment, desertion, torture, custody of children etc.
Pertinent to mention, there 1,032 cases that are pending before Crime Branch of and are being investigated.
In last two years, 276 new cases have been registered by the Crime Branch.
